Derrick "DJ" O’Hara Johnson was born November 22, 1982 in Waco, Texas. He plays for the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL and was the 15th Overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. Derrick played at the University of Texas before going to the professional ranks and was a standout Linebacker in college. He received the Dick Butkus Award, Bronco Nagurski Trophy and Mack Lee Hill Awards during his collegiate career. Johnson played in the first ever U.S. Army All-American Bowl on December 30, 2000 alongside Texas Longhorn teammates Cedric Griffin and Jonathan Scott.
Johnson attended Waco High School in Texas. He registered 170 tackles (103 solo), 21.0 stops for loss, 6.0 sacks, five forced fumbles and two INTs, including one for a TD as a senior. Once he produced a career-high 30 tackles and four forced fumbles in a single game. Johnson earned Parade All-America and first-team All-Texas Class 5A honors following both his junior and senior.
His older brother, Dwight played defensive tackle at Baylor (’96-99) and in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles (2000) and the New York Giants (2002). Johnson’s apartment in Kansas City was featured on a 2006 episode of MTV Cribs.
